Jon Thomas Schneider, age 51, of 965 Kansas Ave. SE, Huron, died Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital at Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be at 2:00 Tuesday, August 23, at the Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Brian Grover officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Jon Thomas Schneider was born on April 25, 1954, to James and Elaine (Dunsmore) Schneider at Tyndall, SD. Jon attended and graduated from Scotland High School in 1972. After graduation Jon joined the United States Army and spent 2 ' years in Germany and was honorably discharged on June 15, 1975. On April 24, 1976, Jon married Connie Diede. He did construction work and was a miner at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, SD, prior to attending Mitchell Vo-Tech where he completed the electrician's course. Upon graduation at Mitchell Vo-Tech he worked for Ferguson Electric in Huron and for the past 14 years was a self-employed electrician. On April 9, 1990, Jon married Elizabeth "Beth" Toyne at Las Vegas, NV. Jon was a member of the William Reaves American Legion Post #7 and was a licensed contractor electrician. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Beth; a son, Matthew of Huron; a daughter, Heidi (Cory) Mittelsteadt of Norfolk, NE; his parents, James and Elaine Schneider of Huron; three brothers, including a twin brother, Robert (Janice Ellis) of Mitchell, Greg (Kristi) of Parker and James (Karen) of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Linda (Tom) Lower of Sylvania, OH, Kathy (Bob) Fugate of Kadoka, SD and Laura (Jeff) Hoffmann of Rapid City; numerous nieces and nephews; three grandchildren; two great nieces and one great nephew. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William 'Bill' and Myrtle Schneider, his maternal grandparents, William 'Bill' and Hazel Dunsmore, and an infant son, Jason Michael.
