John "Marty" Wenzel, age 66, of Huron, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 near Bonilla, SD due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. His Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the funeral home.

John Martin Wenzel, Jr. was born on November 27, 1957 in Saginaw, Michigan to parents John Martin Wenzel, Sr. and Joan Kay Johnson. He graduated from high school in Gladwin, Michigan. Marty joined the United States Navy and served honorably from 1974 to 1982.

Marty moved to Huron in 1998. He was an over the road truck driver for over 35 years, a career he loved. He also enjoyed driving his motorcycle, fixing up his race truck, and putting new parts on his semi. He loved to play and spoil his grandchildren. He married Lachele Decker in Huron on May 27, 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Lachele of Huron; his children, Emily (fiancé Gavin) Wenzel of Huron, Tyler Wenzel of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Payton Munce and Sawyer Wenzel; siblings, Kelly (Don) Sees of Texas, Adam Boles of Texas, and Diane Johnson of California; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Frances John Sees.
