John W. (Jack) Flanery, age 77, of Huron, died on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD.
His Funeral Service wil be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 3, from 1-8 p.m., at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
John W. (Jack) Flanery, the son of George and Mildred (Deitel) Flanery was born on March 20, 1933, in Sioux Falls, SD. Jack graduated from Milbank High School. He also attended South Dakota State University and played football for the Jacks. Jack married Verl Stewart in Brookings, SD. Jack served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was associated with Flanery Meats in Marshall, MN, Milbank, SD, and Huron, SD. Jack worked as a Financial Advisor for American Express until his retirement.
Jack was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Catholic Parish in Huron. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Huron Sertoma Club, and the Huron Country Club. He enjoyed golfing and hunting. Jack loved sports and was a lifelong Jacks fan.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Verl of Huron, SD; 3 sons, Steve (Mary Helen) Flanery of Rapid City, SD, Brian (Susan) Flanery of Overland Park, KS, and C.J. (Stacy) Flanery of West Fargo, ND; 7 grandchildren: Eric Gustafson, Overland Park, KS, Dr. Michael Flanery, and Steven Flanery both of Overland Park, KS, Mary Beth (Marcos) Munoz, and Stewart Flanery both of Rapid City, SD, and Shannon Flanery and Kelsey Flanery, both of West Fargo, ND; brother, Richard (Marsha)Flanery, of Cave Creek, AZ; and 34 nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Elizabeth in 1965; 5 brothers; and 4 sisters.
