John W. Campbell, age 84, of Huron died, Monday, September 15, 2014 at 12:12 am quietly and peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side. A private graveside service will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Welter Funeral Home. John, the son of John F. and Alma (Karnapp) Campbell was born on May 29, 1930 in Clark, South Dakota. He married Betty Jensen on May 31, 1952 in Pipestone, Minnesota. They lived in Huron where he worked for Lawson Plumbing and Heating for almost 50 years. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. After his retirement, he especially enjoyed his own slice of Heaven...the farm, where he raised calves, horses, and planted his garden. He loved riding horses and working cattle. John received tremendous pleasure from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John was a very kind and gentle soul: he had a loving and generous heart, and was always helping others. Grateful for having shared in his life are his loving wife of 62 years, Betty; his daughters, Debbie Thompson of Huron, Dixie (Mike) Ball of Huron, and Tammy (Randy) Oligmueller of Miller; grandchildren, Hope (Kenny) Gordon of Hitchcock, Mikki Moeller of Huron, BJ Ball of Huron, Ryan Ball of Brookings, John Coughlin of Minneapolis, MN, and Betsey (Joe) Hopewell of Honolulu, HI; his great-grandchildren, Jenna Moeller of Huron, and Cooper, Tate, Avery, and Travis Gordon, all of Hitchcock; 2 brothers, Del (Edna) Campbell of Marana, AZ, and Wayne (Jan) Campbell of Detroit Lakes, MN; 2 sisters, Lillian (Wes) Williams of Little Rock, AR, and Pat (George) Stafford Scottsdale, AZ; and many treasured nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother; 9 sisters; and his great-granddaughter, Olivia.
