Joel C. Gilchrist, 75, of Huron, SD passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by his family. A joint Memorial Service with his wife, Norma, will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Faith Alive Community Church (formerly First United Methodist Church) in Huron.

Joel C. Gilchrist was born January 9, 1947 in Temple, Texas. He graduated from Iroquois High School in 1965.

Joel went into the Army in 1966 and was deployed to Vietnam where he was severely wounded and was honorably discharged in 1967.

Joel married Norma Jean Owens on February 14, 1968. Joel drove school bus for Iroquois for many years. He worked at Freedom convenience store after he moved to Huron in 1994 he retired in 2005 due to
health.

Joel was an avid fisherman, hunter, bowler, and he enjoyed watching and playing sports. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandkids.

Joel is survived by his wife Norma of Huron, SD. Sons Joel B (Rhonda) Gilchrist of Winner, SD and Jeff Gilchrist of Huron, SD. 5 grandchildren James Gilchrist, Austin (Jade) Gilchrist, Avery Gilchrist, Aaron Gilchrist, Brianna Gilchrist. 2 great-grandchildren Declan Gilchrist and Radec Gilchrist and many nieces and nephews.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Delores Gilchrist and brother Richard Gilchrist.

He was loved dearly and will be missed forever.
