Joel Estergard, age 49, of Ft. Worth, TX, and formerly of Iroquois and Huron, died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the Plaza Medical Center at Ft. Worth. His funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Friday, October 20, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Friday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Joel Richard Estergard was born on February 13, 1957, to Lawrence and Margaret (McTighe) Estergard in Huron, SD. He grew up on the family farm north of Iroquois and moved to Huron in 1973. He completed his education at Huron High School graduating with honors in 1975. He attended SDSU at Brookings and graduated with honors in 1982 with a B.S. degree in dairy manufacturing. He then began a 24 year career in management in dairy manufacturing, starting with Giet Edge Dairy in Norman, OK, continuing with various dairies in Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and with Kroger Dairy in Ft. Worth where he was the manager of Quality Assurance. Ill health forced his retirement within the last year. Joel was an avid outdoorsman and his many interests included pheasant hunting for which he returned every year to South Dakota during the hunting season; fishing; watching sports on television and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He is survived by 5 brothers, Mike (Wanda) Estergard of Huron, Dan Estergard of Ft. Worth, TX, Tim (Valerie) Estergard of Mesa, AZ, Tony Estergard of Ft. Worth, TX, and Charles (Carmen) Estergard of Huron; 5 sisters, Sheryl (Dan) Hensley of Buffalo, MN, Pat (Nien) Le of Papillion, NE, Kathy Estergard of Sioux Falls, Kris (Tom) Stawicki of Ft. Myers, FL, and Jeana (Dave) Johnson of Watertown, SD; many nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 sister, Marlene Estergard.
