Joe M. Laird, age 83, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Huron Nursing Home. His body will be cremated and a private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Joe M. Laird was born on September 3, 1922, to Jack and Maggie (Kindrick) Laird at Hitchita, OK. As a young child he moved with his parents to Chowchilla, CA, where he grew up and received his education. He then began a 60-year career in trucking working for various companies over the years. On July 5, 1945, Joe married Louise Kuder at Salem, AR. They moved to Huron in 1997. Joe retired from trucking in 1995 due to ill health. In addition to spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Joe enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening, and rodeos. He is survived by 5 sons, Joseph (Frances) Laird of Anchorage, AK, Charles (Sherry) Laird of Redding, CA, Luke Laird of Naylor, MO, Jim Laird of Huron, and Jerry Laird of Chowchilla, CA; 3 daughters, Oma (Mike) Naranjo of Chowchilla, CA, Barbara (Terry) Crow of Chowchilla, CA, and Hazel (Pat) Fitzmaurice of Alpena; 21 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Auftin of Noonan, GA, and Lois Sparks of Aberdeen, WA; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Laird of New Mexico, and Opal Laird of Missouri; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise on August 31, 2001; 5 sisters, infant Vada Laird, Oma Richardson, Hazel Goodman, Sue Bebee, and Lee Thompson; 4 brothers, Dean, Park, Herchel, and Jack Laird; 6 brothers-in-law, Joe Auftin, Al Sparks, Earl Richardson, George Goodman, Claude Bebee, and Hugh Thompson; 1 daughter-in-law, Denise Laird; 2 sisters-in-law.
