Joanne Menning, age 67, of Huron, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, at Calvary Baptist Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; or visitation Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Joanne Menning was born Joanne Kaye Munion, daughter of Floyd and Vivian (Phelps) Munion, on October 12, 1944, in Huron, SD. She attended schools in Huron and graduated from high school in 1962. Joanne married Jerry Menning in Huron. She worked in the housekeeping department at Huron Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Joanne enjoyed photography, movies, yard work, and spending time with her family and friends, and taking care of others. Joanne's greatest joy in life, next to her granddaughters, was making others smile, preferably on the other side of her camera. But when she put her camera back in her purse, she was always making others smile by taking time to say hello and taking care of others. Everything that she did was done with genuine love and compassion. She will be sorely missed and loved forever by so many. Please remember mom's kindness by always being kind, caring and compassionate to those that you meet - and never have regrets. Thank all of you for making mom's life one that she always could smile about, and one that she always enjoyed living. She is survived by 1 son, Dean (Laura) Menning of Chancellor, SD; 2 granddaughters, Melissa Marie Menning and her friend Tyler Lund of Parker, SD, and Samantha Joanne Menning; 1 sister, Jeanette (Elmer) Fink and family of Wessington Springs, SD; special friend, Jerry Krumm of Huron. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; 1 daughter, Judy Menning on April 18, 1979; and Judy's father, Edward VanDerWerff.
