Jim G. "Jake" Wipf, age 77, of Huron, SD passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 7pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at the Prairie Bible Church Cemetery in rural Carpenter on Friday.
Jim was born on November 7, 1939 in Huron to Sam and Mary (Gross) Wipf. He attended school in Huron and then entered to US Army on February 20, 1956 and served in the infantry until his honorable discharge on February 19, 1960. Jim had various employment in Huron which included Porter Ford and most recently the City of Huron where he retired from. He was a quiet man with a calm demeanor who enjoyed reading and socializing with his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his sister, Glenda Hofer of Redfield, SD; half-sister, Charlotte (Frank) Durskey of MN; half-brothers: Leonard Wipf of NY, and Walter Wipf of HI; step-brothers, Norman Nelson of MN, Lyman (Lorraine) Nelson and Ronald Nelson, all of Huron; and nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Esther Wipf; and brother, Raymond Wipf
