Jessie Evans, age 90, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 11th, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Welter Funeral Home or 1 hour prior to the service at the church. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Jessie Evans was born Jessie Ellen Jones on December 30, 1916, to Alfred and Alvina (Luetj) Jones in Huron, SD. She grew up and received her education in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1934. On June 20, 1937, Jessie married Ward Evans in Huron. In 1946, following World War II, Jessie and Ward moved to Pierre, SD, where they owned and operated a bakery. In 1957, they moved to a farm north of Huron and owned/operated a farm (livestock). In 1958, Jessie began working at JC Pennys Department Store in Huron in the catalogue department. In 1975 they moved into Huron. Jessie retired from JC Pennys in 1979. Jessie became a resident of the Huron Nursing Home in January of 1994. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Her many interests included traveling with Ward and visiting most of the United States, gardening, baking, cooking, and keeping a family scrap book and family records. She is survived by 1 sister-in-law, Hazel Jones of Huron; 1 brother-in-law, John Timperley of Idaho; 16 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ward on June 27, 2006; 4 brothers, Emil Jones, Alvin Jones, Edward Jones, and Woodrow Jones; 4 sisters, Leon Wiegon, Florence Howard, Ruth Fortune, and Marie Timperley; 3 sisters-in-law, Verla Jones, Frances Jones, and Ethel Jones; 3 brothers-in-law, Marshall Wiegon, Joseph Howard, and Torris Fortune.
