Obituary

Jesse Jorgensen, age 87, of Huron, died Friday, February 3, 2012, at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. His memorial service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with a private family burial prior to the service at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by Huron Veterans Council. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Monday, February 6, 2012, at Welter Funeral Home. Jesse John Jorgensen was born on April 24, 1924 in Honey Creek, IA to George and Marion (Ham) Jorgensen. He graduated in 1942 from Glenwood High School in Iowa. After high school, he joined the Navy and served from 1942- 1946 in Hawaii as a clerk. Jesse married Sara Mathiesen on May 29, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jesse and Sara farmed near Murray, Nebraska for several years. In 1960, they moved to Huron and Jesse worked as an Insurance Representative for Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Company until his retirement in 1986. Jesse enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. He was an avid sports fan; his favorite teams include the Nebraska Cornhuskers, St. Louis Cardinals and the Huron Tigers. Jesse enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going to all their school activities. In the last few years, he very much enjoyed his great grandchildren. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and a member of both the American Legion William Reaves Post #7 and VFW Forrest MeMullen Post #1776. Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sara; three children, Diane (Steve) Peters of Huron, Cindy (Tom) Brady of Spearfish, SD, Greg (Pam) Jorgensen of Apple Valley, MN; five grandchildren, Chad (Nikki) Peters of Corpus Christi, TX, Shane (Becky) Peters of Jordan, MN, Jessica (Andrew) Arnold of Laramie, WY, Beth Jorgensen (Nick Dille) of Lakeland, FL, Eric Jorgensen of Apple Valley, MN; seven great-grandchildren, Isabel, Sara, and Flynn Arnold, Braylon, Jazlyn, and Jaielle Peters, and Alex Peters. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Wayne and grandson, Ricky.
