Jerry Bockorny, age 68, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at his home under hospice care after many health struggles. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery in Huron. Jerry Alan Bockorny was born November 22, 1957, in Huron, South Dakota, to LeRoy and Florence (Esser) Bockorny. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron schools, graduating in 1977. Following graduation, Jerry began his career with Pepsi-Cola, where he worked for many years. He later managed Erickson’s Gas Station before finishing his working years with the Beadle County Highway Department as a truck driver.
In 1978, Jerry married Janet Grohs at St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron. Throughout his life he was most proud of his two children, Abby and Todd, and three grandchildren, Emma, Reid, and Shawn. Jerry loved watching them ride the carnival rides at the State Fair and enjoyed shooting fireworks with them on the 4th of July.
In his free time, Jerry especially enjoyed hunting and fishing, with duck and pheasant hunting among his favorites. He was a Huron Tiger fan and attended as many basketball and football games as he could. Jerry was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Jerry enjoyed vacationing with his favorite destination being the Black Hills of South Dakota; this became his favorite place as a child and carried through into his adult life. The place he enjoyed the most was the Wickiup Cabins near Spearfish, where he could “smell the pine.”
He is survived by his wife Janet of Huron; children, Abby (Brady) Johnson of Huron and Todd (Cassie) Bockorny of Rapid City; three grandchildren, Emma and Shawn Johnson and Reid Bockorny; his siblings, Cindy (Ed) Klein of Rockford, IL and Larry (Peggy) Bockorny of Huron; Janet’s siblings, Keith (Jerolyn) Grohs of Georgetown, TX, Susan (Bruce) SoRelle of Arlington, TX, Terry (Kathy) Grohs of Omaha, NE, Beth Grohs of Huron, Eileen (Gary) Wedel of Mitchell, Kelly (Joan) Grohs of Aberdeen, and Peggy (Kevin) Tschetter of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Florence, and his parents-in-law, Don and Mae Grohs.
