Jerry Biever, age 70, of 710 3rd St. SE, Huron, SD, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at his home. His funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Iroquois. Burial will be at St. Williams Cemetery, rural Yale, with Military Rites by the Bensley-Rounds American Legion Post #280 of Iroquois. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 7 p.m., or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Leonard Jerome Biever was born on July 23, 1937, to Louis and Vina (Rhoten) Biever at Osceola, SD. He attended Meyers Country School during his elementary years and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1956. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 25, 1956, and served as an airplane mechanic aboard the carrier USS Lexington. He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1960. Following his honorable discharge Jerry worked for Schoenfelder Implement in Iroquois for many years, later owning and operating his own repair shop, Biever Repair. During this time he owned and operated Iroquois School Bus and also drove school bus for the Iroquois Public School System. He married Kathleen Geiver on November 4, 1970 in Huron. In the early 1990s he began work as a bus driver for Jack Rabbit Lines and Jefferson Lines until his retirement in November of 2007. He was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Iroquois. He cherished the time that he could be with his family, especially the grandchildren. His many interests included fishing, (camping, boating, and hunting when he was younger), reading, and Iroquois High School sporting events. He is survived by 5 children, Bill (Carrie) Biever of Brandon, Dave (Terri) Geiver of Brandon, Deb (Jeff) Norlin of Brainerd, MN, Marcia (Dean) Hess of Clear Lake, IA, and Randy (Trish) Geiver of Crescent, IA; 14 grandchildren, Quin Biever, Lindsey Geiver, Angie Geiver, McKenzie Koenen, Aiden Geiver, Carter Hess, Brady Hess, Ali Jo Hess, Trenton Norlin, Bridget Geiver, Ari Show, Ian (Sara) Show, Eli Show, and Isaac Show; 1 great grandson, Ian Geiver; 6 brothers and sisters, Shirley Salter of Lake Preston, Robert (Maxine) Biever of Iroquois, Janice (Al) Lentz of Huron, Alice (David) Ellis of Houston, TX, Eugene Wayne (Darlene) Biever of Pine City, MN, and Larry (Helen) Biever of Fredericksburg, VA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, John Biever (U.S. Navy) 1961, and William Biever (Vietnam) 1967; 1 brother-in-law, Gordon Mike Salter 1993; and 1 niece, Kim Soderberg in 1994.
