Jerry Micheel, age 79, of Huron, SD, formerly of Cavour, SD, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the SunQuest Village in Huron, SD.

His funeral will be 10:30 AM Friday July 12, 2019 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with burial in Ideal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, July 11 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Jerald Micheel, the son of Arthur J. and Lucille C. (Rupp) Micheel, was born on December 17, 1939 in Huron, SD.  He attended school and graduated from Cavour High School.  Jerry also attended Huron College. Jerry served his country in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged.  Jerry farmed near Cavour for many years before moving to Huron.

Jerry married Marlene Bales on November 23, 2001 at the American Lutheran Church in Huron.

Jerry was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Huron and served as president of the Church Council for many years.  Jerry was a member of and served as a leader for the Beadle County 4-H.   He was also a member of the Local Elks Club, and the International Farm Youth Exchange Program to Finland, and served as an officer for the IFYE Alumni Association. He was also on the Heartland Board.eHe  Jerry served as a Beadle County Commissioner for many years and on the Huron Regional Medical Center Board.

Jerry enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to Washington D.C. and Alaska with Marlene. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared in Jerry's life are his brother Bruce (Carla) Micheel of Cavour, SD; sister Marilyn (Howard) Hanson of Mankato, MN; six nieces and nephews: Brad (Natalie) Micheel,  Matthew (Kathy) Micheel,  Nicole (Rob) Armstrong, Tyler (Ashley) Micheel, Michael (Victoria) Hanson; and Pam True; and several cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Lucille; and his wife, Marlene in 2017.
