Jennie Younkin, 86, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, at First United Methodist Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Sunday from 5:30-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home and a prayer service at 5:30; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Jennie Younkin was born Jennie Ethel Farmer, daughter of Joe and Clara (Walton) Farmer, on January 2, 1925, in Huron, SD. Her family was living in Hitchcock, SD, at the time of her birth and that is where Jennie lived until the time of her marriage. While growing up she attended Broadland School through the 9th grade at which time she stayed at home to care for her ailing mother. On September 16, 1944, Jennie married George Younkin in Huron. She worked as a baker at Swanders Bakery in Huron from 1947-1962; Model Laundry 1962-1967; then began working at Randall's Bakery as a baker and retiring in 1987 as the bakery manager. She collected salt & pepper shakers, bells, and angels. She enjoyed flowers, Bingo, and spent many hours in the exercise/walking room at the Senior Center. Jennie was a member of First United Methodist Church; lifetime member of the VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776 Auxiliary; and the Huron Area Senior Center. She is survived by 1 son, Ray (Bonnie) Younkin of Sioux Falls, SD; 1 daughter, Gerri (Tom) McMillan of Brandon, SD; 6 grandchildren, Chris (Rod) Friedrich of Sioux Falls, Michelle (Matt) Rist of Brandon, Corey (Carrie) McMillan of Brandon, Brenda (Frank) Zepp of Virgil, Vickie King of Huron, and Gina King of Mt. Lake, MN; 10 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Esther Chaplin of Huron; 1 brother, Kenneth Farmer of Alpharetta, GA; and 1 sister-in-law, Betty Farmer of Aberdeen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George on February 5, 1995; 3 brothers, Donald Farmer, Louis Farmer, and infant Lester Farmer; 1 sister, infant Eva Catherine Farmer; 1 great grandchild, Chance Casey; 1 brother-in-law, Richard Chaplin; and 1 sister-in-law, Janelle Farmer.
