Jennie Anderson, age 91, of Hitchcock, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 6, at the United Methodist Church at Hitchcock with Pastor Jan Price officiating. Burial will be at Altoona Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening or Wednesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. Memorials may be directed to the Hitchcock Methodist Church and Beadle County Humane Society. Jennie Anderson was one of nine children born to Edwin and Etta (Adams) Hawkey at Cottonwood, SD, on October 18, 1913. Jennie graduated from Cottonwood High School and attended Spearfish Teachers College and taught school for several years. On July 17, 1935, Jennie married Jens Anderson at Rapid City, SD. They lived at Wasta, Van Metre and Wendte, SD before moving to Hitchcock where she lived the rest of her life. Jennie was city assessor for many years and also worked at the Hitchcock Public School for 17 years as a kitchen helper and custodian. Jennie loved to read and crochet. She also enjoyed her pets, and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include one daughter and three sons; Janis Rezac and her husband Gene of ONeill, NE, Jim and his wife Marianna of Oreana, IL, Ken and his wife Joan of Pierre, and Jennies son Kurt of Hitchcock; Jennie is survived by six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, Edwin Hawkey of Portland, OR and one sister, Edythe Rodgers of Tacoma, WA. Jennie is also survived by her many friends at the Hitchcock Nutrition Center and two special pets - Brandy and Kittycat. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jens in December 1976 and six sisters, Pansy, Goldie, Mabel, Helen, Grace and Norma.
