Jeannette Peterson, age 84 of Huron, passed away on October 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
A private family burial will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Jeanette's family will welcome all friends and family on
October 21, 2023 at 2:00 P.M.

Jeannette Nell Addison was born on April 16, 1939, to George Stanley and Marie E. Addison. Jeannette grew up in Belvidere, SD, graduating from high school in 1957. She attended Huron College, graduating in 1961 with a business education degree. She met Max Peterson at Huron College, and on August 5, 1962, she and Max were married in Belvidere. They welcomed their son, Doug, in 1969, and their daughter, Susan, in 1974. Jeannette taught in Iroquois and Howard, SD; Denver, CO; and Julesburg, CO, before moving to Huron, SD, where she lived and raised her children. In 1975 she and Max opened the Orange Crate, which was part of the Huron community until 2017. Jeannette also worked at the First Presbyterian Church as a secretary.
Jeannette was active in her community, serving on the Huron Arts Council, the Huron College Alumni Board, and assisting with the Spirit of Dakota Award. She served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church.
Jeannette loved her family; caring for them was her life's joy. Grateful to have shared her life are her husband, Max; son Doug (Jen) of Vermillion, SD; daughter Susan of Sioux City, IA; sister Edith Sandy of Gympie, Australia; sister April Bork of Farmington, MN; 7 grandchildren (Maggie, Gray, Gertie, Heather, Lucas, Katie, and Jack) and 4 great-grandchildren (Avery, Alec, Eli, and Nina). She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Audree (Carrol) Coe.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to donate to the Huron Arts Council or the First Presbyterian Church scholarship fund.
