Janice Faye Nelson, age 77, of Huron, SD passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Welter Funeral Home with a private family burial on Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery in Huron.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Janice F. Helseth, the daughter of John and Edith (Kukuk) Helseth, was born on February 6, 1939 in Huron, SD.  She attended school and graduated from Huron High School. Janice worked as a telephone operator in Huron until she met her future husband, Galen.

Janice married her sweetheart, Galen D. Nelson on July 10, 1958 in Huron.   They were married for 59 years.   After their marriage, the couple moved to California, where Janice cared for and raised her family until returning to Huron in 1992.

Janice was a member of American Lutheran Church in Huron for many years.  Janice loved horses, and cats but her most precious were her dogs.  During her lifetime, Janice touched many lives and enjoyed many adventures including, cooking, camping, motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, and gardening to include a few. Janice was loved by all who knew her.

Grateful for having shared in Janice's life are her husband, Galen of Huron, SD; three children: Debra, Wayne, and Cynthia; six beautiful grandchildren; twelve amazing great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Helseth; and four sisters: Esther, Eleanor, Bernice, and Beverly.

Janice was the kindest, most thoughtful, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  Although we will forever miss her, so too we know that her spirit lives in each of us.
