Janet Sue Oestreich, age 61, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Her Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Huron, SD, with burial at a later date at Broadland Cemetery. Her visitation with the family present will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Janet Sue Burns, the daughter of Robert E. and Phyllis (Smoyer) Burns, was born on September 6, 1951 in Huron, SD. Janet attended school and graduated from Huron High School in 1969. Janet also attended the College of Professional Business in Minneapolis, MN, and received a degree as a medical technician. Janet married Rudy Oestreich on March 8, 1974 in Huron, SD. The couple made their home in Huron until moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1975 for her job. Janet worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years until her retirement. In 2000, the couple moved back to Huron, SD. Janet was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Communication Workers of America, and served as the chairwoman for the Make a Wish Foundation in Sioux Falls, SD during its first year. Janet was very active in the Girl Scouts. Janet enjoyed reading, baking, playing bunkos, and attending the family campouts. Her family was very precious to her and she enjoyed spending time with them especially her grandchildren. Grateful for having shared in Janet's life are her husband, Rudy of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Maggie (Justin Johnson) Le Grand of Sioux Falls, SD; son Justin (Crystal) Oestreich also of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren: Rachel, Karter, and Olivia LeGrand, Micaela Osuch, Abbi Litz, McKenzie Oestreich, and Trenten Johnson; two sisters, Marsha ( "Freddy") Coil of Huron, SD and Mary (Gary) Hillberg of Huron, SD and; brother-in-law, Kenny Oestreich of Highmore, SD; three sisters-in-law: Phyllis Wilcox of Huron, SD, Elaine (Harvey) Schrader of Bowdell, SD, and Carol (Frank Meyers) Swearingen of Huron, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lynn Kay Burns in infancy; and niece Tonya Coil.
