Janet Kay Mehling, age 61, of rural Wessington, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls. Her funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Monday, April 4, at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Wessington with Father John Helmueller officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Wessington. Friends may call Sunday afternoon until 5:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday evening at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Wessington or Monday morning prior to the Mass at the church. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Wessington. Janet Mehling was born Janet Kay Phillips on February 26, 1944, to Lloyd and Evelyn (Rowen) Phillips at Wessington, SD. She attended grade school at Wessington and graduated from Wessington High School. On September 16, 1962, Janet married Roy Mehling at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Wessington. They have lived on the farm at rural Wessington since that time. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, Altar Society and church choir. She enjoyed working in her yard and flowerbeds: teaching her grandchildren card games, baking, and cheering them on at their special activities; camping and cherished the holidays with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Roy Mehling of Wessington; one son, Greg (Rhonda) Mehling of Wessington; four grandchildren, Cole, Paige, Keely and Carter; one son-in-law, Kieran Wong of Valencia, CA; her mother, Evelyn of Miller; her father-in-law, Richard Mehling of Wessington; two brothers, Lee (Marilyn) Heller of Wolsey, and Jerry (Diane) Phillips of Wessington; one sister, Sandy (Jim) Neilson of Chamberlain, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Phillips; one daughter, Brenda; and her mother-in-law, Lorraine Mehling.
