James Gregory Vos, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Avantara Huron in Huron, South Dakota. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 10, 202 1 at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, Minnesota.

James Gregory Vos was born January 11, 1928 in Slayton, MN to Jake and Lillian (Lindsey) Vos. He grew up on the family farm north of Slayton. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Greg attended country school then graduated from Slayton High School in 1946. Following graduation, he attended Teachers Training at Canby, MN. He taught country schools several years until he was elected as Murray County Superintendent of schools, a position he held until he resigned to accept a teaching job in Granite Falls, MN.

Greg married Ardyth Yvonne Iverson on August 23, 1953 in Slayton. They moved to Granite Falls in 1961 where Greg was involved in education for the next 23 years. He retired in 1983. Greg was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church. He was instrumental in the formation of Minnesota High School Rodeo in the late 1950's. He had a passion for rodeo and the love of horses, which he passed on to his family. Up until three years ago Greg still could be found in back of the chutes at the PRC rodeo held annually at Granite Falls. He loved to brag about his family and was always so proud of them.

Greg and Ardyth moved to Huron, S.D. in July of 2020. Greg was 92 then and dementia was setting in. They felt the need to be near family to help them. Greg is survived by his children Jill (Ron) Hins of Huron, SD; Jon (Nita) Vos of Clark, SD; Wade (Dallas) Vos of Caputa, SD; and Shane (Kathy) Vos of Forest Lake, MN. By his grandchildren Lindsey (Charles) Brewer, Tater (Marae) Hins, Zack and Whitney Vos, Ben (Niki) and Stephanie Vos, and Sarah Vos. By his great-grandchildren: Charleigh and Baylee Brewer; Talley, Tatyn, and McCoy Hins; siblings, Case Vos of Slayton, MN, Mavis Pierson of Woodstock, MN, and Jackie Ast of Maynard, MN.

Greg was proceeded in death by Ardyth, his loving wife of 68 years; his parents; brothers Frank and Les; and his sister, Jean.
