James Propst, age 62, of Huron, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Huron with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 on Friday, August 27, 2021, with family present from 5-7 PM at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. His funeral service will be live-streamed on the Welter Funeral Home Facebook Page .

James Propst was born on April 13, 1959 to parents Harlan and Arlene (Siegfried) Propst in Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm near Goodwin, SD. James graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1977. He attended South Dakota State University, graduating in 1982 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. James worked for Western Area Power for 33 years, retiring in 2016.

He married Diann (Shay) Townsend on March 10, 1995 in Nebraska. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked to grill and smoke meats. Flying, farming and visiting with friends was also important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister KayLynn (in infancy) and his daughter, Kassie Townsend.

James is survived by his wife, Diann of Huron; children, Erica (Jordan) Woodbury and Dandi (Chad) Wyldes, all of Huron; 5 grandchildren, Jaxson, Ava, Gracelyn, Ledson, and Anna; brothers, David (Jody) Propst, Daniel (Ann) Propst, and Lyndon (Juanita) Propst; and several nieces and nephews.
