James Pownell, age 93, of Huron, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran's Council. Burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 PM On Friday, January 11, 2019 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

James R. Pownell, was born on July 4, 1925 in Huron, South Dakota to his parents Holly L. and Alice I. (Johnston) Pownell. James graduated from Hitchcock High School. James served in the United States Navy.

James married Ada Nyhouse on July 14, 1950 in Broadland, South Dakota. To this union, two children were born.

James worked as a parts manager for D. Urquhart & Sons for 22 years and for Sibley Motors for 18 years.

James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Waterskiing on Lake Byron was also a favorite pastime of Jim's. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huron, American Legion and the Elks Club.

James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ada of Huron; His children Randall (Jan) Pownell of Spokane, Washington and Roxy (Gary) Gogolin of Huron. Two grandchildren; Geoffrey (Lisa) Gogolin and Amanda Gogolin. Two great-grandchildren; Judson and Brantley Gogolin. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and six brothers.
