Obituary

James Pollock, age 84, of Huron, SD, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 7, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery and Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. or Monday morning one hour prior to the service.

James Raymond Pollock, son of Peter and Mary (Reyleck) Pollock, was born on May 4, 1926, in St. Paul, MN. When he was 3 years old he moved with his family to Huron, where he attended St. Theresas Parochial School and graduated from Huron High School in 1944.

On June 13, 1944, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the destroyer USS Hugh W. Hadley (DD74) in the Asiatic/Pacific Theaters during World War II. He was honorably discharged on June 16, 1946.

He returned to Huron and began a 42-year career with Northwestern Public Service as an electrician, retiring in 1988 as General Foreman of the line crew.

On October 23, 1954, Jim married Dorothy Wanken in Huron, where they have made their home all of their married life.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (St. Martin); VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776; American Legion William Reaves Post #7; IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers); and the Huron Area Antique Power Association.

His many interests included antique engines and tractors; reading; hunting; fishing; and water skiing.

He is survived by is wife, Dorothy of Huron; 2 sons, John (Barbara) Pollock of Clark, and Leo (Beth) Pollock of Huron; 2 daughters, Pat (Dale) Shoemaker of Wolsey, and Mary (Joel) Terrill of Chandler, AZ; 10 grandchildren, Corrine (Joel) Kallemeyn, Cristina (Timothy) Goldammer, Mathew (Sarita) Pollock, Jeremy (Deidra) Shoemaker, Kristin (Tony) (Shoemaker) Cronin, Rita Pollock, Charles Pollock, Mike Pollock, James Terrill, and Jacob Terrill; 10 great grandchildren, William Goldammer, Quentin Goldammer, Eric Kallemeyn, Emily Kallemeyn, Laura Eaglestar, Sam Pollock, Aidan Shoemaker, Joselyn Shoemaker, Tyler Cronin, and Kaydence Cronin; 1 brother, Ron (Arlene) Pollock of Redfield; 2 sisters, Dorothy Lundgren of Huron, and Marlene Rodman of Olathe, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Jim Pollock; and 2 brothers-in-law, Don Lundgren, and Duane Rodman.
