James Jim Morrissey, age 91, of 1251 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 22, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Donald Imming officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. The family requests no flowers. Morrissey was born on October 14, 1913, to George and Meroe (McEwen) Morrissey at Huron, SD. He attended schools at Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1931. Jim entered the U.S. Army on May 14, 1942, and served in England and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946. He worked for Fairmont Foods in administration all of his working life, starting at Huron, later moving to Rapid City, SD, Cleveland, OH, Athens, OH, and Coshocton, Ohio. On September 23, 1972, Jim married Verelyn Vogan at Coshocton. The couple lived at Coshocton prior to moving to Parkersburg, WV, returning to Huron upon his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. He was an enthusiastic and avid hunter. Jim personally and expertly trained his own hunting dogs, plus he showed them professionally at Dog Shows. He loved to play the piano after he had taken piano lessons in his later years. He was self-taught on the computer and maintained an extensive correspondence with his friends through e-mail. He is survived by 1 sister-in-law, Caroline Morrissey of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verelyn on July 17, 1988; 5 brothers, Michael, Howard, Francis, Thomas, and Eugene Morrissey; 2 sisters, Catherine Bischoff, and Mabel Wessels; 4 sisters-in-law, Marge Morrissey, Phoeba Morrissey, Iris Morrissey, and Virginia Morrissey; and 2 brothers-in-law, Ralph Bischoff, and Dick Wessels.
