Obituary

James Jim Jacobson, age 80, of 1430 Ohio Ave. SW, Huron, died Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, September 25, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. The family will be present from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. James Norman Jacobson was born on December 21, 1925, to Gust and Edith (Ecklund) Jacobson at Huron, SD. He attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and served in Naval Aviation. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He attended South Dakota State College and received a degree in civil engineering. On January 22, 1947, Jim married Maurine Romsdahl at the Lutheran Church at Hayti, SD. They moved to Huron where Jim was a partner with Jacobson and Sons Construction Company for more than 30 years. He retired in 1982 and continued to live in Huron. He was a private pilot and enjoyed airplanes and flying, fishing, his coffee club, and his family. He was a member of American Lutheran Church, Huron Noon Lions Club, active with Meals on Wheels, former President of the Associated General Contractors Building Division of South Dakota, and former head of the Huron Airport Board. He is survived by 2 sons, Greg Jacobson of Kansas City, MO, and David Jacobson of Pierre, SD; 2 daughters, Diane (Robert) Creasey of Marina, CA, and Linda (Judd) Thompson of Rapid City, SD; 3 grandchildren, Carrie Creasey of Marina CA, Jacob Thompson of Minneapolis, MN, and Seth Thompson of Rapid City, SD; 1 brother, John (Jeanne) Jacobson of Phoenix, AZ; a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Betty (Ervin) Krutzfeldt of Huron; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maurine on December 4, 1994; 2 brothers, Robert Jacobson and Henry Jacobson; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Jacobson.
