James Clarence Holman, 88, of Rice Lake, formerly of Huron, SD passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Dove Healthcare. He was born April 30, 1930 in Washburn, WI to Clarence and Venette (Holzer) Holman. Jim was raised in Washburn and graduated from high school there. He enlisted and served with the US Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Base in Rapid City, SD. On a weekend furlow he took a trip to meet his great aunt and uncle in Wessington Springs, SD, where he met the love of his life, Nyla Baughfman. They married soon after and spent the next 60 years of their lives together. Out of that union, daughters Jana and Jeri were born. Once out of the service, Jim attended the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, then transferred to SDSU in Brookings, SD, where he received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He then moved his family to Huron, SD, where he went on to work for the Bureau of Reclamation, later known as Western Area Power Administration (WAPA).
Jim belonged to Riverview United Methodist Church. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family as well as his coffee buddies and golfing. In 2004, Jim and Nyla moved to Rice Lake, WI to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Jim was a strong man who overcame many obstacles and will always be remembered for his strength and determination when faced with adversity.
In his early days, Jim enjoyed pheasant hunting with family, and in his later years, he enjoyed the challenge of putting together jigsaw puzzles. Jim had a great love of sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves. He had a passion for reading, and has read every Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey book ever written. His interest in science fiction movies developed into a love of all things Star Wars which he shared with his oldest grandson. His lifelong love of the Packers led to a fun rivalry with his son-in-law and youngest grandson.
He is survived by his loving daughters: Jana Holman of Rice Lake and Jeri (Scott) Reimer of Jackson, MN; his grandsons:  Beau James (Rebecca) Reimer, Pacific Grove, CA and Jordee Scott (Victoria) Reimer, New Richmond; 5 great-grandchildren:  Easton, Nora, and Kennedi, New Richmond, Lena and Callie Reimer of Pacific Grove, CA; sister-in-law, Sue Kutil of Chamberlain, SD; many nieces and nephews.
