James H. Gamber, age 82, of Huron, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at his home in Huron. His memorial service will be on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by Huron Veterans Council. Burial will be in the Wessington Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with his family present will be on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5-7 PM at Welter Funeral Home.

James Haller Gamber was born on December 7, 1937 to parents Charles N. and Ruth L. (Walker) Gamber in Clark, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm near Carpenter, South Dakota. James entered the United States Army in September of 1961 and was honorably discharged in June of 1963.

James married Marlys Kay Davis on February 3, 1962 in Colorado Springs, CO. Jim and Kay managed the Belmont Estates and the Huron Arms Apartments for over 28 years. Jim also worked as a meat cutter at Amours, Swift, and Dakota Pork for most of his life.

James was a member of the American Legion and the Meat Cutter and Butcher Workmen of North America.  James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.  He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. James loved to do yard work and always had a beautiful yard.

Grateful for having shared in Jim's life are his daughter Gail (James) Thomas of Pierre; grandson, Thomas Fischer of Pierre; his mother-in-law Lorine Davis of Huron; sisters Joan Gilbert of CO, June (Dale) Metter of Huron, and Jinx (Steve) Richards of Rapid City; brothers Charles Gamber of Huron, Bill Gamber of Huron, David (Charlotte) Gamber of Emery,  Howard Gamber of Huron, and Royal (Arlyce) Gamber of Nevada; brother-in-law, Ronald (Dorothy) Davis of Colorado; Anthony Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Gamber; his wife, Kay in 2019; daughter, Penny Kay Gamber; son, Andy Gamber; brothers, Rodney Gamber, Jack Gamber, Gary Gamber, and Randy Nelson; and his father-in-law Archie Davis.
