James A. Dorris, age 60, of Huron, SD, passed away on Friday July 26, 2013. His Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron,SD. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. Burial of his cremated remains will be held at a later date. James A. Dorris, the son of Alfred and Beulah (Hornback) Dorris, was born on May 23, 1953 in Mitchell, SD. He attended school and graduated from Huron High School. Jim worked as a foreman for Groves Construction for 30 years. Jim also worked for 12 years for Western Area Power as a construction representative before his retirement. Jim married Lois Mastel on June 5, 1980 in Huron, SD. They made their home in Huron. Jim was a member of the North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drag racing, and working on cars. Jim especially loved to spend time with his family and friends. Grateful for having shared in Jim's life are his wife, Lois of Huron, SD; two sons, Daniel (Alicia Fjeldhein) Dorris, of Dell Rapids, SD and Jade Morgan of Texarkana, TX; two grandchildren, Marissa and Andrew Morgan; Donna Dosch; seven brothers: Rick Dorris, Wynn (Maria) Dorris, and David (Mary) Dorris, all of Huron, SD, Don (Peggy) Dorris of Tulare, SD and Greg, Mark, and Todd Summers ; six sisters: Sandy (Darrin) Story of Huron, SD, Vicky (Kevin) Slunecka of Everly, IA, Nickie Dorris of Huron, SD, Heather and Jackie Summers, and Carol; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael.
