James J. Bishop was born on November 5, 1917, to Clarence and Ella (Ray) Bishop at Forestburg, Texas. He attended school at Forestburg.
On June 21, 1938, James married Nora Macheel. He worked for the Kingsbury County Highway Department, farmed southwest of De Smet, and was employed at West Texas State University at Canyon, Texas. They moved to Huron in December of 1988.
James was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the time that he could spend with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his family. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and playing guitar in his earlier years.
He is survived by his wife, Nora of Huron; 3 children, Noel (Kit) Bishop of Guilford, Conn., Gloria (Rodger) Kruger of De Smet, and Elaine (Cris) Fox of Lexington, SC; 7 grandchildren, Gregory Kruger, Gary Kruger, Willard (Sandie) Sprang, Walter (Donita) Sprang, James (Melanie) Sprang, Daniel (Jane) Bishop, and Kimberly (Aaron) Stevens; 10 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Faye Wilson of Levelland, Texas; 1 brother, Ray Bishop of Bisbee, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Casket Bearers will be Rodney Combs, Rodger Kruger, Willard Sprang, Walter Sprang, James Sprang, and Alan Sprang.
