Obituary

Jacqueline Jager, age 86, of Huron, SD, passed away on Monday January 30, 2023 at Sanford Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.

Her funeral will be 10:30 AM Wednesday February 8, 2023, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her funeral service will be livestreamed at

Her visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, February 7, at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Jacqueline McGillvrey, the daughter of Laurn and Lorine (Christopherson) McGillvrey, was born on September 16, 1936, in Wolsey, SD.  Jacqueline graduated from Wolsey High School in 1954.

Jacqueline married Raymond Jager of Huron on June 5, 1964, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, SD.  The couple made their home in Huron, SD. Jacqueline worked various clerical jobs with the Federal Aviation Association, The Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S Fish and Wildlife before retiring from the Federal Crop Insurance Bureau at the Huron Federal Building.

Jacqueline was confirmed on April 2, 1950, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, SD.  Jacqueline loved attending her local church. Jacqueline was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church LWML and taught confirmation and Sunday school.  Jacqueline's favorite thing to do was spending time with her family and friends especially her grandkids.  They were her pride and joy, and she made it her goal to attend as many of her grandkids activities as possible.

Grateful for having shared in Jacqueline's life are her husband of 58 years, Raymond of Huron, SD; her son, Timothy H. (Tammy) Jager of Red Lodge, MT; her daughter, Tracy Ann (Steven) Meikle of Watertown, SD; five  grandchildren: Jeremy Jager of Billings, MT, Jessica Jager of Red Lodge, MT, Andrew Jager of Denver, CO and her twin granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsey Meikle of Watertown, SD; sister, Marjorie VanDenBerg of Boise, ID; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; brother, Dean McGillvrey; and sister, JoAnne Marshall.
