Jackie Scheibe, age 84, of 1010 Nebraska Ave. SW, Huron, died Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, December 28, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin channell officiating. A private burial service will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be this Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Jackie Scheibe was born Jackie M. Anderson on November 8, 1923, to Fred W. and Sarah Mae (Baker) Anderson at wolsey, SD. She attended schools in wolsey and graduated from wolsey High School in 1941. On October 10, 1942, Jackie married Milburn Mel Scheibe at Montgomery, MN. They made their home on a farm northwest of wolsey, SD, until 1947 when they moved into wolsey. In 1950 Jackie began working in the general office (accounting/bookkeeping) for Northwestern Public Service. They moved to Huron on December 31, 1960. In 1960, after her husband was elected Beadle County Sheriff, Jackie began working as the jailer for the Beadle County Jail, a position she held for the next 28 years until her husbands retirement as sheriff in December 1986. In 1980 she began many years of volunteer work for the hospital; and for the elementary schools as an aid plus working with the elementary curriculum director. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, past church elder and Clerk of Session, Presbyterian Womens Circle, and Order of the Eastern Star. Jackies many interests included machine sewing of garments, cooking and baking, reading her extensive library of cookbooks, feeding the birds outside, and planting her flower pots in the springtime. She is survived by 1 son, Harlan (Kathryn) Scheibe of Fargo, ND; 1 daughter, Cheryl (Bob) Krutzfeldt of Huron; 4 grandchildren, Karen (Fredrik) Eliason, Meghan Scheibe, Emily (Mike) Sovell, and Linda (Tim) Gogolin; 1 great granddaughter, Abigail Gogolin; 2 sisters, Faye Nettinga of wolsey, and Phyllis Cogswell of Aberdeen; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mel on January 5, 1990; 1 sister, Joyce Christopherson; 3 brothers-in-law, Renus Nettinga, Mark Cogswell, and Tim Christopherson; and 2 nephews.
