Jabe Lorenz, age 85, of rural Huron, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at First United Methodist Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Thursday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Jabe Gene Lorenz, son of Paul and Emma (Witzel) Lorenz, was born on April 23, 1926, at Esmond, SD. He received his education in Esmond / Iroquois area and graduated from Cavour High School. He farmed all of his life in the Esmond and Huron areas. On December 5, 1945, he entered the U.S. Army and served as part of the occupation forces in Germany following World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 12, 1947. His many interests include playing cards, hunting, fishing, and working with the livestock and the farm. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; American Legion William Reaves Post #7; VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776; and the Elks Lodge. He is survived by 4 sisters, Lucille DeJong of Huron, Vera (Leonard) Raether of De Smet, Fern Cronin of Huron, and Faye Fisher of New Brighton, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clarence; and 3 brothers-in-law, Harry DeJong, Jr., William "Bud" Cronin, and Wayne Fisher.
