Ivan Gross, age 63, of rural Carpenter, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at his home doing what he loved working with his cattle. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 29, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with Rev. Christopher Ascher officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or Saturday morning prior to the service at the church. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Ivan Gross was born on February 5, 1941, to George A. and Evelyn (Hofer) Gross at the hospital at Huron, SD. He attended school at Yale and graduated from Yale High School. After his graduation, Ivan was employed at Armour and Company and also farmed with his dad. On September 9, 1962, Ivan married Kay Weber at Trinity Lutheran Church at Yale. He continued to work at Armours and farmed at rural Carpenter. He was on the Farmers Union Board of Directors for Carpenter and Willow Lake Farmers Elevator. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, and loved to golf, travel and fish. He especially loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Kay of rural Carpenter; one daughter, Lori (Rick) Hovde of Willow Lake; one son, Jared (Jean) Gross of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Dusty, Jamie, Misty, Brooklynn, and Kaitlin; one brother, Del (Kathleen) Gross of De Smet; one sister, Monica Hofer of Huron; a special aunt, Marion Weber of Clark; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua; and his parents.
