Irvin Tompkins, age 73, of 1043 Ohio Ave. SW, Huron, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. His memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Welter Funeral Home, Huron with the Rev.Marion Cain officiating and military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Burial of the cremated remains is not scheduled at this time. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 6, from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. The family will be present at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday. Irvin Tompkins the son of Bert L. and Mable (McLain)Tompkins was born on March 20, 1935 in Carthage, SD. Irvin attended High School in Carthage and completed his high school requirements in the military. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1958. Irvin Married Audrey Mardella Waters in 1960 at Pipestone, MN. Irvin worked as a sheet metal foreman for Therm Industries in Illinois and Wilbrecht industries in Huron for many years. Irvin moved to Huron in 1986. He enjoyed camping, fishing the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, and in his later years, coin collecting. Grateful for having shared his life are his son Tim Tompkins; daughters, Terri (Tim) Tompkins-Shelton, South Elgin, IL, and Sandi Tompkins, Rapid City, SD; his grandson, Ryan Lane Tompkins; his brothers and sisters, Marvin (Krista) Tompkins, and Beverly Kempf, both of Huron, SD, Linda Zavitz, Green Valley, AZ, Charlotte (Dan) Leonard, Lawrence, KS, and Rodney (Carol) Tompkins, Huron, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Mable Tompkins; and his brother in law, Paul Kempf.
