Obituary

Irvin Kahre, age 83, of 632 Utah Ave. SE, Huron, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, March 31, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday morning. Irvin Walus Kahre was born on August 24, 1922, to August and Martha (Bartel) Kahre on the family farm northwest of Wolsey, SD. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Johns Parochial School. He farmed on the family farm along with his parents. On November 14, 1943, Irvin married Violet Longcor. They lived on a farm until Irvin was inducted into the U.S. Army in June of 1945. He served with the 57th Field Hospital in Germany and was honorably discharged on November 23, 1946. He returned to a farm southeast of Wolsey, and later bought a farm southwest of Wolsey where he farmed until he retired in 1987. The couple moved to Huron in 1997 and he has lived here since that time. He was a member of the William Reaves American Legion Post #7 in Huron, past member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Wolsey, and a current member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. His many interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, and watching go-cart races. He is survived by 1 daughter, Lucinda Cindy (Howard) Alter of Huron; 1 son, Richard (Jackie) Kahre of Mina Lake, SD; 4 grandchildren, Brenda Phillips, Holly Phillips, Crystal Alter, and Aaron (Tina) Kahre; 6 great grandchildren, Jessica King, Diontay Phillips, McKenzie Kahre, Jaylaca Phillips, Jabier Rios, and Kaden Voigt; 1 brother, Edward (Gen) Kahre of Wolsey; and 1 sister, Esther Krueger of Huron. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Violet on May 1, 2003; and 2 brothers, Herb Kahre and Art Kahre.
