Iris A. Brown, age 93 of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs, SD.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Huron, SD, with burial at Wolsey Cemetery.

Her visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 15 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Iris Adelaide Privett, the daughter of Earl and Edna (Hulbert) Privett, was born on December 29, 1922 in Huron, SD.  She attended School and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1941. She also attended SDSU at Brookings from 1941-1943.

Iris married Charles A. Brown on August 15, 1943.   In 1945 Iris returned to Huron and has lived here ever since.

Iris was employed by Montgomery Wards, JC Penneys, Sears, and Kmart.  After retiring from Kmart in 1988, Iris worked at Luthers.  In 1990 she became the receptionist and bookkeeper for the YWCA retiring in 2008.

Iris was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huron where she served two terms as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and played the hand bells.   Iris was a member of the Circle 6 since 1947 and served several terms as the club's president and secretary.  She was a member of the Eastern Star for 35 years, a lifetime member of the ALD #59 of Wolsey, SD, and a member of the Lioness Club of Huron from 1982 until 2016 where she served as past president and secretary.  Iris also hosted an Exchange Student from Japan.   She also served many years on the supervising committee for the CNW Credit Union of Huron. Iris enjoyed reading, music, bicycling, and traveling.

Grateful for having shared in Iris' life are her three daughters: Rhonda Szpotanski of San Diego, CA, Tamara (Jerry) Hatle of Stickney, SD, and, Lisa (Kent) Schneider of Huron, SD; her son-in-law, Jerald Cook, Cottonwood, SD; 10 grandchildren; James, Chad, Serena, Wendy, Jeremy, Cody, Ryan, Andrew, Sara, and Kamelia; 12 great-grandchildren: Joshua, Chase, Paige, Zach, Bentley, Savannah, Tatianna, Tori, Braden, Brantley, Aiden, and Kinslee.

Iris was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Stephen; daughter, Andrea Cook on April 23, 2016; and brother, Donovan Privett.
