Irene E. Garrett, age 90, of Madison, Indiana, and formerly of Huron, died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 8, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with the family present, or Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church music fund or charity of the donor's choice. Contribution cards are available at the church. Irene E. Garrett was born on January 15, 1928 in Altamont, South Dakota to Edward and Ruth (Campman) Hale. She attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1936. She resided nearly all of her life in Huron. On May 8, 1938, Irene was united in marriage to Rex Garrett in Huron. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church. Irene was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, card games, cooking and visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. On December 12, 2007, she moved to Madison, Indiana to be near her daughter and family. Irene is survived by one daughter, Connie (Robert "Buzz") Posz of Madison, Indiana; one son, Robert Garrett of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Lawrence (Jane) Hale of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Maurice Hale of Brookings, South Dakota; one sister, Irma Jolin of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren, David (Angela) Posz, Michele (Rich) Hendrickson, and Stephanie (Ray) Hanson; six great grandchildren, Elizabeth Hendrickson, Luke Hendrickson, Jacob Posz, Olivia Posz, Sara Posz and Jack Hanson; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ruth Hale; her husband, Rex Garrett on August 11, 1999; one sister, Norene Hurd; and two brothers, Donald and Harry Hale.
