Iner A. Nelson, age 93, of Huron, died Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Sunquest Healthcare Center in Huron. His funeral service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the Welter Funeral Home; or 1 hour prior to the service.
Iner was born on January 31, 1922 in Union County, SD to Eric and Nora (Ericson) Nelson. He attended Scott rural School district No 69, graduating from the 8th grade in on June 7, 1935.
On February 13, 1943, he married Lucille L. Woodcock and they began farming in Union County, SD,
where their two children, Arnold and Janet were born. Iner helped in the delivery of his son Arnie at their home. In the spring of 1948, Iner and Lucille purchased a farm in Clark County near Willow Lake, SD. While farming in the Willow Lake area, Iner served on the township board, rural school board, and farmer's telephone board.
In April of 1969, Iner and Lucille sold part of their farm and moved to Huron where Iner worked and managed the Peavey Company Lumber business from 1970 until his retirement in 1981. In May of 1987, he worked part time as the yard manager for Paul and Donna Christen in Huron. Iner enjoyed repairing and collecting toy tractors, as well as traveling to many toy shows. He also took pride in his flower beds and working in his yard.
Iner is survived by 1 son, Arnold (Ruth) Nelson of Wichita Falls, TX; 1 daughter, Janet (Richard) Austin of Willow Lake, SD; 1 brother, Donald (Laden) Nelson of Brewster, MN; 3 grandchildren, Dawnette Austin, Yvonne McDonald, and Leah Suhr; 5 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille in 2011, 4 brothers, Raymond (in infancy), Mancel, Bud, Norman; and 1 sister, LaVon Meyers.
