Illa Mae Johnson, age 93, of Huron, SD, died on Monday September 6, 2010 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.
Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Wednesday.
Illa Mae Kimlicka the daughter of Albert and Nettie (Crisman) Kimlicka was born on January 9, 1917 in Firesteel, SD. She attended school and graduated from Redfield High School in 1936. Illa Mae lived in Redfield from 1917- 1939 and Groton, SD from 1940- 1956. Illa Mae married Alvin E. Johnson on May 23, 1939 in Redfield, SD. In 1956 the couple moved to Huron, SD. Illa Mae worked at Gibsons Department Store from 1962-1968.
Illa Mae was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron since 1956. She was also a member of the La Sertoma Club, and the Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, visiting with her neighbors and friends, and spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter, Karleen Schmiedt and her husband, Dean of Fort Ripley, MN; Linda (Johnson) Fillingham, and husband, Bill; Illas 6 grandchildren: Kelly (Kyle Serocki) Schmeidt, Andrew Schmeidt, Matthew (Cheryl) Johnson, Alex (Lisa) Johnson, Michael (Judy) Hubbard, and Melissa (Erik) Darzins, 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Illa Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; her son Roger Johnson; brother, Bud Kimlicka; and her sisters, Doris Dahl and Gladys Ziegler.
