Obituary

Homert H. Hins, age 89, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, and formerly of Wessington Springs, died Sunday, November 20, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 23, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with Rev. Kevin Channell and Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Homert Harrison Hins was born on March 14, 1916, to Solomon and Bertha (Tiede) Hins. He grew up on the family farm in Bates Township, Hand County. He attended rural school. On June 11, 1939, Homert married Viola Fischer at the Rosehill Presbyterian Church in rural Hand County. They farmed for 43 years on the family farm before retiring to Wessington Springs where they lived for 23 years. Through his life he was an active member in his church the Rosehill Presbyterian Church. He also was active on the Bates township board, Masonic Lodge #87, James Valley Shrine Club and Fire Crew, Jerauld County Farmers Union and Farm Bureau, and Wessington Springs Country Club. He was survived by his wife Viola of Huron; 2 sons, Dennis (Sandra) of Nisswa, MN, and Ron (Jill) of Huron; 5 grandchildren, David (Holly), Corey (Angie), Lindsey and Tater Hins, and Michelle (Todd) Johnson; 4 great grandchildren, Haley, Allec, Caden and Maddie; a sister, Dorothy Plate of Huron; and 1 step sister, Eloa Kroeker of Placerville, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ida; 5 stepbrothers, Herbert, Earl, Quinton, Garfield, and Elvin Cal Winter; and 1 brother-in-law, Wallace Plate.
