Obituary

Helen Pastian, age 82, of 1740 Ohio Ave. SW, Huron, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, July 14, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the funeral at the church Friday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. Helen Pastian was born Helen Bernice Carlson on December 30, 1923, to Arthur and Mabel (Wold) Carlson at Finlayson, MN. As a young child she moved with her family to a farm northwest of Huron where she grew up. She attended schools in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1941. Following graduation she farmed in the Huron area. On September 5, 1959, Helen married Ruben Pastian in Huron. They owned and operated a farm east of Huron until 1998 when they moved into Huron. During this time Helen also worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Beadle County Highway Department retiring in 1985 after a 30-year career. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron. Her many interests included gardening of flowers and plants, crossword puzzles, traveling, camping, and gathering together with her friends each morning and noontime for coffee and lunch. She is survived by her husband, Ruben of Huron; 1 daughter, Linda (Robert) Stanfill of Kansas City, MO; 1 son, Dennis (Deloris) Houck of Huron; 4 grandchildren, Dan Houck of Pierre, David Houck of Huron, Brenda (Colin) Petty of Albuquerque, NM, and Rhonda (Bill) Scott of San Angelo, TX; 2 great granddaughters, Jessika Scott, and Kaitlyn Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents.
