Helen Norris, age 84, of 1225 Minnesota Ave. SW, Huron, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at her son Deones home, 605 Kansas Ave. NE, Huron, under hospice care. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 20, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Helen Norris was born Helen Anna Hartmann on June 10, 1922, to Martin and Martha (Lemke) Hartmann on a farm near Fairmont, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop, MN, and attended St. James Parochial School for seven years. She finished her elementary school in Northrop, MN, and graduated from Northrop High School. After completion of her education she made her home with her parents until the time of her marriage. On October 3, 1941, Helen married to Melvin Norris at Fairmont. In 1945, the couple moved to Huron after Melvin was discharged from the U.S. Army. Helen has lived in Huron since that time. She was employed by different restaurants in Huron and also worked at St. Johns Hospital (now HRMC) in the housekeeping department from 1968-1988. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church. Her many interests included playing Bingo, word-find puzzles, TV game shows, gardening, canning, and she was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Above all else she enjoyed the time that she could spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by 3 sons, Dennis (Sherry) Norris of Redmond, OR, Deone (Terry) Norris of Huron, and Bradley (Jan) Norris of Pierre; 2 daughters, Trudy (James) Murphy of Tenmile, OR, and Becky (Vern) Styer of Jackson, MO; 1 daughter-in-law, Pamela (Rick) Gorman of Spearfish; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Luella Mahlman of Fairmont, MN, and Arlene (Kermit) Shoemaker of Granada, MN; 2 brothers, Alvin (Janice) Hartmann of Northrop, MN, and Lawrence (Lavilla) Hartmann of Northrop, MN; 1 sister-in-law, Betty Hartmann of Fairmont, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin in 1971; 1 son, Allen Smoky Norris in 1994; 1 granddaughter, Tanya Norris in 1968; 1 brother, Ervin Hartmann; and 1 brother-in-law, L.W. Mahlman.
