Helen A. Mecham, age 99, of Huron, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at her residence. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with interment following at St. Martin's Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7 pm on Tuesday, December 26th at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish followed by a scripture prayer service and rosary service at 7pm; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral mass on Wednesday at the church.

Helen was born on December 18, 1918 in St. Cloud, MN to Leonard and Amelia (Richter) Streitz. She graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud in 1937. After graduation, she moved to California where she worked for the US Government during WWII. She then moved back to Minnesota where she worked as a telephone operator in Park Rapids, MN. She was united in marriage to Myron L. Mecham on September 10, 1946 in St. Cloud, MN and moved to Huron shortly after their wedding. Helen worked as a switchboard operator at St. John's Hospital (now HRMC) and then as secretary at St. Martin's Catholic Church from 1965 until her retirement in 1984.

After retirement, Helen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and being active in their lives. She enjoyed watching the MN Twins, gardening along with seamstress work, sewing, and quilting. She was an active member at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and volunteered at the St. Francis Thrift Shop and Holy Trinity School.

Helen is survived by one son, John Mecham of Huron; two daughters, Kathy (Cliff) Hart of Chandler, AZ and Helen Gnuse of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bunny White of St. Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myron on July 19, 1982; one daughter Mary Ann Sorensen in 2003; two brothers, and two sisters.
