Helen McNeil, age 90, of Bossier City, Louisiana, and formerly of the Wessington area, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at the Colonial Oaks Nursing Center at Bossier City. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 23, at First Presbyterian Church at Wessington with Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial will be at the Wessington Cemetery. Friends may call this Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday morning. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM this Friday evening at the funeral home. Helen McNeil was born Helen Lillian McGirr on July 13, 1914, to Jack and Mabel (Daugherty) McGirr at Wessington, SD. She attended high school at Wessington. On August 23, 1932, Helen married Lloyd McNeil at Custer, SD. They farmed near Wessington. In 1934, they moved to Portland, OR, where Helen was employed at various times. In 1941, they returned to the Wessington area and resumed farming. For a period of time she worked at the Wessington telephone switchboard. In 1955, they moved to Rapid City, then to Quinn in 1976. In 1986, they returned to Wessington where they lived until her husband, Lloyd, passed away in 1996. Helen then moved to Bossier City, LA. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Wessington. She is survived by 1 son, James (Shelby) McNeil of Clayton, NC; 2 daughters, Jacquelyn (James) Merrell of Bossier City, LA, and Nancy (Larry) Lee of Williamsburg, VA; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a foster daughter, Bonnie (Donald) Murphy of Arizona City, AZ and their 5 children and numerous great grandchildren; 1 sister, Hazel McNeil of Rapid City; 1 brother, Clarence (Norma) McGirr of Arizona City, AZ; 1 sister-in-law, Lois Duxbury of Wessington; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; and 1 brother, Clifford McGirr;
