Helen McNutt, age 82, of 55 Colorado Ave. SW, Huron, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, February 2, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday afternoon. Helen McNutt was born Helen Dorothy Marie Ferguson on June 6, 1924, to Frank and Katherine (Koch) Ferguson on a farm in rural Wessington, SD. She received her early elementary education at a country school northwest of Wolsey. She moved with her family to Huron in 1936 and graduated from Huron High School in 1943. On September 23, 1943, Helen married Wayne McNutt at Huron. The couple made their home in Huron and in the early 1950s Helen worked at Lees Drive-In for 3 years. She was a homemaker and mother who raised her 9 children with devoted care and love. She was a member of American Lutheran Church. Helens family was the most important part of her life and she cherished the time that she could spend with them, especially her grandchildren. Helen thoroughly enjoyed socializing and was willing to go anywhere at any time to visit with family and friends, including attending picnics and birthday parties. She was a fan of the Lawrence Welk TV Show, enjoyed watching the various cooking shows on television, and canning. She is survived by 2 sons, Thomas (Sandra) McNutt of Huron, and Michael (Sandra) McNutt of Belton, MO; 7 daughters, Carol (Robert) Schlim of Huron, Dianne Palmer of Rockford, IL, Gloria (Terry) Paye of Huron, Rhonda (Robert) Stanfield of Doland, Julie (Kevin) Labrie of Huron, Marsha Jenson (Gene Weinreis) of Doland, and Shelley (Lanny) Palmer of Huron; 23 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Floyd (Ione) Ferguson of Huron; and 2 sisters, Evelyn (Merwyn) Moore of Wessington Springs, and Joy (Robert) Meyers of Yucca Valley, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne on February 5, 1992; and 4 grandchildren, Brad Schlim, Dustin Schlim, Melanie Nagel, and Amanda Weinreis.
