Helen Hawley, age 86, of 615 14th St., Huron, died Sunday, January 6, 2008, at her home. Her memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 10, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Boehne and Rev. Christopher Baesler officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Welter Funeral Home. Helen Hawley was born Helen Marie Zeeck on March 27, 1921, to Otto and Anna (Timm) Zeeck at Huron, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She attended schools in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1939. In 1940, Helen graduated from the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls. She owned and operated Hawleys Beauty Shop in Huron for over 30 years. On November 18, 1946, Helen married William A. Bud Hawley in Huron. In addition to running her business and raising her family, Helen worked for many years as an election judge in Ward 8-P-1. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church; and the Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary. Helens family was always her priority in life, but her many interests included gardening, playing bridge, golfing, knitting, crocheting, camping, and cooking. She will be remembered for the thousands of angel food cakes that she baked for all of her friends, family, and many others. She is survived by 2 sons, Gary (Patricia) Hawley of Shokopee, MN, and Steven Hawley of Sioux Falls; 1 daughter, Nancy (Hawley) Thomas of Woodbury, MN; 6 grandchildren, Ryan Hawley and his fiance Trisha Andersen of Farmington, MN, Brian (Jessica) Hawley of New Market, MN, Stephanie Hawley (Cody) Rahder of Huron, Michelle Thomas (Christopher) Baesler of Rapid City, Wendy Thomas of Woodbury, MN, and Christopher Thomas of Minneapolis, MN; 3 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Arlene Schroder of Faribault, MN, and Alice (Willie) Lyon of Huron, SD; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Bud on January 31, 2004.
