Hazel P. Runge, age 93, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  Her memorial service will be at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A private family burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Hazel was born on March 25, 1926 in Wolsey, South Dakota to Edward and Helen (Neuharth) Schnabel.  She received her education in the Wessington Springs school system, graduating from high school in 1944. She married Eldon "Al" Runge on February 26, 1945.  Because of her husband's employment as a salesman and later District Manager for an insurance company, they lived in several states, including 30 years in Iowa.  In the spring of 2000, she and Al moved back to Huron—the place they always called "home."  They joined Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where Hazel was a parish member and volunteer.

Hazel worked for Montgomery Ward in Huron, for Colorado Hospital Service in Denver, and for several women's specialty shops in Nebraska and Iowa.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling, including making two trips to England when son David was studying at Oxford University.  They also made a two-week trip to Greece and Italy in 1989, and numerous trips to insurance conventions in places like Hawaii.

Hazel enjoyed her home, family, traveling, reading, sewing, and being a grandmother. She is survived by son David and his wife Kim of Boulder, Colorado and San Juan, Puerto Rico; grandson Colin of Lakewood, Colorado; granddaughter Clairissa of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Caroline of London, England; sister Phyllis (Jack) Younie of Rapid City, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, by her sisters Leona Pederson and Luella Kogel; by her brothers Elmer, Lee, and Robert Schnabel; and by her brothers-in-law Oswald Pederson, Leland Kogel, and Jack Younie.
