Hazel M. Murphy, age 103, of Huron, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Cremation has taken place and private family service will be held later this summer.

Hazel Mavis Murphy was born on October 29, 1914 in Carthage, South Dakota to George and Vera (Baker) Murphy. She attended school and graduated from Huron High School. She also attended business college.

Hazel worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses with many years at Huron Manufacturing.

Hazel was a gifted artist, handcrafting her own greeting and Christmas cards. She was also a talented seamstress, sewing most of her clothes. Her family will remember her for baking the best pies and other baked goods. Hazel was very close to her sister-in-law, Irene. They were more like sisters and had been neighbors for many years on the farm, Countryview Estates and Violet Tschetter Memorial Home, always just a few doors apart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; Juanita (Lee) Eichinger, Melvin Murphy, and Imogene (Park) Oviatt.

She is survived by her special sister-in-law, Irene; Nieces and nephews; Joan (Herm) Schempp of Boulder, CO., Mike (Sammy) Eichinger of Wala Wala, WA., VeeAnn (Loren) Ambers of Reno, NV., Pat (Bonnie) Murphy of Liberty Lake, WA. and Kathy (Denny) Mead of Huron.
