Obituary

Hazel Curtis age 95, of Virgil, SD, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m.Saturday, October16, 2010, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with burial at the Virgil Cemetery in Virgil, SD.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday October 15, at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Hazel Aldrich, the daughter of William and Irene (Hale) Aldrich was born on February 1, 1915 in Chery Township north of Wessington Springs. She attended school and graduated Salutatorian from Sand Creek High School in 1932. She was also class President. Hazel married Frank Curtis Jr. on June 11, 1939 in Huron, SD. The couple made their home on the family farm. Hazel was a Farmwife, and loved to help on the farm, in fact, Hazel and Frank were noted for raising Registered Polled Hereford Cattle.

Hazel was a member of the Neighborly Get-Together Club and the South Dakota Poll-ettes. Hazel loved the New York Yankees. The highlight of her day was watching the Yankees play on television. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, doing the family geneology, exhibiting apples at the State Fair, and spending time with her family and friends.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her 2 daughters, Joyce Dubois, of Huron, SD and Carol (Larry) Gildemaster of Virgil, SD; 5 grandchildren: Kurt (Maureen) Dubois of Wolsey, SD, Vicki (Steve) Neuharth, of Wolsey, SD, Darci (Kevin) Weeldreyer of Huron, SD, Michele (Jeff) Bush, of Pierre, SD, and Mark (Tyann) Gildemaster, of Pierre, SD; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, William (Barbara) Aldrich of Huron, SD; 3 sisters: Catherine Fastnacht of Miller, SD; Dorothy (John R.) Clouser, of Wolsey, SD; and Betty (Elmer) Presuhn, of Virgil, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, in 2000; 2 sisters: Isabell Goodall, and Doris Schiltz; son-in-law Donald Dubois; and great-grandson, Benjamin Dubois.
